Introduction to Okinawan Dance

Join us for a unique experience through this introductory workshop. Participants will be taught various selected dances, giving them an appreciation for the different styles of classical dance (female, male, and young male) and folk traditions.

Bring tabi or socks to class. No experience is necessary and no performance is required.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Yukie Shiroma

Yukie Shiroma (Jimpu Kai Shiroma Yukie Ryukyu Buyo Kenkyusho) founded and directed the Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts Dance Program in 1987.  In 2006 she received an Individual Fellowship Award from the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and a teaching certificate from Master Instructor, Cheryl Yoshie Nakasone, director of Jimpu Kai USA Kin Ryosho Ryukyu Geino Kenkyusho.  She currently teaches Okinawan Dance at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
