Individualized Career Achievement
Network (iCAN) Testimonials

Meet Nelson Shimomi - a single parent, father of four, who always had dreams of working in a refinery. Despite facing many challenges, Nelson proved that with determination and a little assistance it's never too late to pursue your life's goals and dreams. iCAN helped Nelson take the first step on his career path.
Cori Simpson already had a Bachelor's degree but had a difficult time securing a career. Despite various efforts and challenges, she persisted and found iCAN. She is now employed at a packaging company, enjoys her job, and is lined up for advancement in a very short time.
Nelson, Cori, and many others came to us as referrals through Oahu WorkLinks, who offers unemployed, underemployed or laid off individuals with tuition assistance for approved training programs. With the support of  iCAN and Oahu WorkLinks, individuals are provided with the opportunity to follow their passion and pursue the career of their dreams.
I am a returning student after many years of being out of school and pursuing a career change in the medical field. iCAN has helped me with job search, resume writing, and review of math skills needed to pursue higher level classes. The team of instructors are very knowledgeable, patient, understanding, and promote success. It’s an excellent program I would highly recommend.

The ICAN program was very educational and I obtained my NCRC (National Career Readiness Certificate) through the class... The teachers were very helpful and never left me to figure out anything by myself.

iCAN has given me back the self-confidence I lost because of my math issues and the lack of exposure with math upon leaving high school. The instructors have lots of patience and their teaching methods make it so easy to understand.

Hugh used iCAN to fast-track his admittance into the Solar PV Installation and Design class. He shared his experience in that workforce training class below:

Everything is going great! Unlike when I was young, I actually love learning! I have also contacted several solar companies who want to hire me as soon as I get qualified! God has blessed!

iCAN – I DID:  An Underachiever’s Story

When I first became unemployed, I felt like I had no direction, but the same old job search. Thanks to my newfound friends at iCAN, I have a newfound direction.  When I first started out, I only thought I needed to learn fractions, and I did, but I was also given a chance to relearn so much more.  I was also glad to meet and get to know others going through the same thing I was— reeducation.

I also earned the NCRC certificate for my efforts and it can be added to my resume, under education. My time here with iCAN has really helped me personally and professionally.  Anyone that finds themself wondering or needing a new path or just wanting more for themself, iCAN is a good place to start. The teachers and staff really do care and will help you to set a goal and help you to reach that goal. I want to say thank you to Jennine, Sherri Ann, Joy, and Gigi, and the other staff at iCAN. Your friendship and guidance and teaching were truly instrumental to what I consider my newfound direction. Thank you for all your help.

The iCAN Program

iCAN was a support program designed to accelerate a student’s preparation for entry into workforce training programs in the Agriculture, Energy, and Health industries, or into the community college system. iCAN provided supplemental academic support for those enrolled in workforce training programs who need more individualized support to succeed.

All iCAN classes and services were funded through the Department of Labor’s C3T Grant.
This project was funded from a grant awarded under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grants, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration.

C3THawai‘i is an equal opportunity employer/program and auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
